Health FitnessSpecialist – Full time
Falcons Landing is looking for a Fitness Specialist to join our Fitness team. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive physical fitness program including overseeing the fitness center, conducting exercise classes, performing physical assessments and monitoring individual exercise programs.
Falcons Landing is a Life Plan Retirement Community located west of Washington, DC in Loudoun County, Northern Virginia. We are a first-class Life Plan Community, privately held not-for-profit organization which provides an outstanding and caring work environment. Falcons Landing has a wonderful combination of residential homes, spacious apartments and three high class healthcare residences.
Responsibilities:
- Working with team members to coordinate all activities of the Fitness Center including planning, initiating, implementing, and evaluating fitness programs for residents.
- Educates residents, staff, and guests on safe and effective use of exercise equipment.
- Instructs group exercise classes, including land and water classes.
- Working with residents to achieve their fitness/wellness goals and address their questions and needs.
- Conduct Fitness Center Orientation and Senior Fitness Testing for new residents and on an annual basis with the goal of integrating the resident in a regular wellness regimen.
- Coordinates with the Health Center and/or Rehabilitation staff to continue resident’s fitness/rehab plan after discharge from the Health Center and/or from Rehab services.
- Provides metrics, data, and reports as requested.
- Monitors the condition of the Fitness Center and fitness equipment inventory and offers recommendations for updates to equipment as needed.
What you need:
- Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university in Kinesiology/Physiology or related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess competent knowledge of exercise principles, fitness testing, health risks and fitness program design.
- Exercise specialist certifications such as ACE Senior Fitness Specialist, ACE Group Exercise Certification, National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Exercise and Sports Training Association and/or National Council for Certified Personal Trainers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
- Experience in evaluating fitness programs for seniors is a plus.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in physical fitness, therapy, anatomy or related field preferred.
- Must be able to obtain a Pool Operator Certification through High Sierra, can be provided by Falcons Landing
