Director of Community Life – Full Time

Falcons Landing is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Community Life to join our Senior Leadership Team.

The Director of Community Life provides strategic and operational leadership for a broad range of services that directly influence the quality of life, wellness, engagement, and overall resident experience for more than 430 independent living residents.

This position provides leadership and oversight for Wellness Services, Social Work, Recreation, Fitness and Aquatics, Transportation, Chaplaincy, and contracted resident services including salon and massage therapy. The Director works collaboratively with residents, employees, physicians, department leaders, and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure programs and services reflect the mission, values, and standards of Falcons Landing.

The successful candidate will be a highly engaged and approachable leader with strong emotional intelligence, excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization. Experience in a healthcare, senior living, life plan community, or related setting is strongly preferred.

Key Leadership Responsibilities

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the Community Life Department and its diverse programs and services.
  • Serve as an active member of the Falcons Landing Senior Leadership Team and contribute to organization-wide planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and implement programs and services that enhance resident engagement, wellness, satisfaction, and quality of life.
  • Collaborate with executive and departmental leaders to ensure Community Life initiatives support the organization's strategic priorities.
  • Identify emerging resident needs and develop innovative approaches to meet those needs.

Departmental Operations & StaffLeadership

  • Provide oversight and leadership for Wellness Services, Recreation, Social Work, Fitness and Aquatics, Transportation and Chaplaincy
  • Provide oversight of contracted resident services, including beauty salons and massage therapy.
  • Lead, develop, coach, and hold departmental leaders and staff accountable for performance, service excellence, and achievement of departmental objectives.
  • Establish appropriate departmental goals, performance expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, professionalism, and exceptional resident services.

Resident Experience & Engagement

  • Champion a resident-centered approach to services, programs, and daily operations.
  • Oversee a comprehensive calendar of on- and off-campus activities, educational programs, wellness initiatives, fitness and aquatics programming, transportation, and other resident services.
  • Support resident communication and engagement through the Resident Portal, in-house television channel, and other communication platforms.
  • Oversee the Resident Satisfaction Survey and use resident feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support resident transitions, bereavement services, and other programs that promote emotional and social well-being.

Financial & Business Management‍

  • Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor departmental expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Evaluate programs, services, contracts, and operational needs to ensure effective use of resources.
  • Participate in capital planning and long-term strategic initiatives affecting Community Life services.

Interdisciplinary & OrganizationalCollaboration

  • Provide leadership for the Independent Living Interdisciplinary Committee.
  • Participate in the AFROC Board Continuum of Care Committee, Safety and Security Committee, and Bioethics Committee.
  • Collaborate with residents, families, healthcare providers, department leaders, and other stakeholders to address resident needs and resolve concerns.
  • Represent Community Life in organizational initiatives, committees, and strategic planning activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, gerontology, social services, recreation, business administration, or a related field required; Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Gerontology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive management or leadership experience, preferably in a senior living, healthcare, Life Plan Community, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple programs, departments, or service areas.
  • Proven ability to develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets.
  • Strong understanding of resident-centered services and the unique needs of older adults.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust and productive relationships with residents, families, employees, and organizational leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound decisions, and lead effectively in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of a not-for-profit senior living organization.
