What should senior men look for in a retirement community?

June is Men’s Health Month and here at Falcons Landing we are excited to share some of what makes our community special. As a military-themed retirement community, residents have the common bond of service to our country. Once you are here, you are sure to experience a thrilling next chapter of your life.

One thing we understand from research and anecdotal experience is that men tend to be more hesitant about moving into a retirement community. Perhaps it is the feeling of losing self-sufficiency, or the feeling that what you have is “good enough.” We encourage anyone thinking about a retirement community to come in for a tour so you can explore Falcons Landing and what we have to offer—from unbeatable dining to opportunities for fitness to activities every day of the week.

But who will you hang out with? And if you’re not one to reach out and join a social group, how will you make friends? At Falcons Landing, we want everyone to create meaningful bonds, which is why we have a number of activities to help you find your way and enjoy a sense of camaraderie with fellow men.

Here are some activities that you can enjoy on campus:

  • Groups and clubs: Joining a group or club on campus is a great way to bond with others over shared interests. Learn a new skill or share what you already know. Along with our men’s group and veteran’s club, you can also check out our woodworking shop and more.
  • Enjoy a game: Of all the retirement activities, games are a big part of socializing and having fun. Enjoy activities such as Wii Sports, choose from your favorite games or take advantage of our full-size billiards, shuffleboard table and poker table in the Community Center.
  • Cocktails and conversation: Gather to chat and unwind with a cocktail or two. Our Compass Club on campus is the perfect place to meet new people, lounge, dine and socialize over an evening beverage.
  • Take time to explore: Plan an outing off campus with a group of men and go exploring. Consider sight- seeing, hiking or a road trip. For an option closest to home, Potomac Falls is located just outside the campus and offers the combined experience of city and country living.

If there’s an activity you're interested in and haven’t seen on campus,  just let us know and we can make it happen. Join us at Falcons Landing to find your tribe of like-minded retirees. The common bond makes every day a joy! Contact us to learn more.
