How to Make Friends in a Senior Living Community

We all know that friends make our lives more fun and meaningful, but did you know that the benefits of friendships have been scientifically proven? A 2017 study found that quality friendships were instrumental in promoting better health and happiness.

Among the number of changes that come with moving to a senior living community, making new friends is one of the most exciting. Here at Falcons Landing, residents enjoy the “common bond” of service to our country, so it’s easy to forge new friendships and find those meaningful connections among fellow residents.

When you join our community, here are just a few activities to help you get acclimated and start making the friendships of a lifetime:

  1. Join a Falcons Club: There are lots of clubs on campus for you to express your creativity, have fun, pick up an old hobby and mingle. Choose from arts and craft, book club, computer club, “knit wits” and more.
  2. Bond over shared memories: Retirement gives you time to do all the things you love and what better way to enjoy them than with good company. Join other residents on campus for our wide range of events and outings. These social activities for older adults are a great way to meet new people and bond over shared memories. Enjoy a cruise, a trip to a local vineyard or hop on our motor coach for a day in D.C.
  3. Stay fit together: Having a workout buddy is one of the best ways to stay committed to your fitness and wellness goals. Additionally, attending activities together over a long period of time gives you the opportunity to get to know others better. Consider joining a game of tennis, our walking clubs or even the golf group. For indoor activities, there's water volleyball, water aerobics, Wii bowling, table tennis and more.
  4. Make the most of our common spaces: Our Terrace Homes features the best of both apartment and cottage living. Make the most of it by hosting activities, gathering and having fun in our two beautiful common areas - The Skyview Lounge or The Vista Room. It’s a great way to renew common bonds and form new friendships. We have plenty of other common areas to explore in our apartment buildings and community center, Founders Hall.  You'll often fine residents working on a puzzle, having conversations and more!

At Falcons Landing you’re sure to easily make new friends and feel right at home in no time.  For a tour of our campus and amenities, contact us today to schedule a tour.
