Embracing a New Year: 5 Simple Steps for Setting Positive Intentions for 2023

January 17, 2023

The start of a new year brings both challenges and opportunity. Research shows a strong link between the power of positive thinking and good health. According to an expert at Johns Hopkins, positive people are 13% less likely to experience a traumatic heart event.

We believe life is what you make it, so let’s make the start of 2023 the perfect time to embrace change and make positive impacts in our lives and the lives of others. As we move forward into this fresh new year, let’s take time to focus on how we can approach our relationships, personal growth, health habits, finance and leisure activities with intention.

Here at Falcons Landing, our highest priority is to support our residents with everything they need to achieve their goals—from new year’s resolutions to long-term life plans. We do this through wellness and engagement activities, campus amenities ranging from exquisite dining to health care, and by empowering the best people to live their best life.

To help you get started on your new year’s goals, here are five simple ways you can live with purpose—and achieve all the incredible things you want out of life.

1. Embrace positivity as the key to a happy and healthy life.

Positivity is one of the most important aspects of a happy and healthy life. Positivity is what allows us to see the good in people and situations, and it helps us to maintain a positive outlook on life. When we are positive, we are more likely to be happy and optimistic, both of which are key to a healthy life.

There are many benefits to a positive outlook on life. For one, positivity can help us to achieve our goals. When we focus on the good things in life, we are more likely to be motivated to do better and to achieve our goals. Positivity can also help us to have better relationships. When we are positive, we are more likely to be friendly and likeable, and we are less likely to argue with others. Positivity can also help us to cope with stress and difficult situations. When we face challenges in life, having a positive attitude can make them easier to handle.

2. Write down your goals.

One way to be positive is by setting goals and working toward them—and this starts by writing them down. Keeping a list of your goals can help you stay motivated and focused on what's important. It's also important to be positive in your thoughts, words and actions. Be sure to enjoy the small moments and be thankful for what you have, as this will help you stay positive during difficult times. Finally, don't be afraid to smile or laugh, as these are both great ways to show your positive attitude.

3. Practice positivity every day.

Positive thinking is a powerful tool that can have a transformative effect on your life, because it helps you to become more optimistic and happier, and it also enables you to achieve more. One of the best things about positive thinking is that it is a skill that you can learn and improve over time. The more you practice it, the better you will get at it, and the more benefits you will reap. Some of the benefits of positive thinking include increased happiness, improved mental health, increased success, and reduced stress levels.

4. Keep up with your physical fitness.

Physical fitness is one of the most important aspects of staying healthy and positive. Regular physical activity has been shown to have a number of health benefits, including reducing the risk of chronic diseases, improving mental health, and helping to maintain a healthy weight. Exercise also releases endorphins, which can improve mood and create a sense of well-being.

Because fitness is such an important component of wellness, Falcons Landing offers residents dynamic wellness programs that  give them what they need to maintain healthy habits and independence. We have three walking clubs that take full advantage of the local scenic trails. Our fitness center features an array of exercise equipment for both cardio and resistance training. And our junior Olympic swimming pool is terrific for swimming laps or joining a game of water volleyball! Learn more about our wellness amenities here.

5. Connect with others for vitality.

Connection with others is vital for a positive life. A lack of social connection can lead to depression, anxiety and a lower quality of life. Humans are social animals and need to interact with others in order to feel happy and fulfilled. This is why it is so important to have friends, family and a support system in your life. In fact, one of the best reasons to move into a Life Plan Community (or CCRC) is for the social connections you will find—from happy hours and dining out to walking buddies and game nights.
