Why wellness?

Good nutrition and healthy activity are important at any age. For seniors, the benefits are many but most importantly, exercise and eating well can help you feel better. Here are just a few reasons to prioritize your health and wellness, according to the National Institutes of Health:

  • Reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, colon cancer, and breast cancer
  • Improve your balance and lower risk of falls and injuries from falls
  • Sleep better
  • Lower anxiety and decrease depression
  • Increase energy
  • Stay independent
  • Improve cognitive function

The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans suggests you do at least 150 minutes (2 ½ hours) a week of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, like brisk walking or fast dancing. Being active at least 3 days a week is best, but doing anything is better than doing nothing at all
